Frequently Asked Questions

My boyfriend and I only had unprotected sex one time. Can I still be pregnant?

Yes. Any vaginal sexual experience can result in pregnancy.

What are STDs?

STDs are sexually transmitted diseases. Both you and your partner can be at risk for a STD from unprotected sex. For more information on STDs, call our hotline, e-mail us, or click here.

If I am pregnant, what are my choices?

Commonly, there are three choices: you can keep the baby, you can give the baby up for adoption, or you can have an abortion.

What is an abortion?

An abortion is a medical procedure during which your cervix (the opening of your vagina) is forced open and the fetus (baby) and all of the material that keeps it alive are sucked out into a container and disposed of .

What is adoption?

Adoption is a legal process that permanently places a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents or parent. An example would be a woman who is pregnant decides to give her baby up for adoption to a couple who cannot have their own children. She carries the baby to full term, delivers the baby, and the couple then becomes the baby's parents. There are a wide variety of adoption situations.

No one in my family will understand. How could I ever tell them? How can I tell my boyfriend/husband?

Our counselors would be happy to help you tell anyone you need to tell - whether you just need advice on how to tell them, or you would like to invite them in to the SNCPC office to discuss it all together with a counselor. Your family loves you. Give them a chance!

What are some symptoms of pregnancy?

Every woman's symptoms are a little different, and many can be caused from other physiological factors like your period or stress. Here are some common early pregnancy signs:

Tender, swollen breasts

Feeling tired much of the time

Nausea

A missed or late period

Frequent urge to go to the bathroom

Sensitivity to certain odors

Food aversions (foods you used to like don't sound good anymore)

Some spotting or mild bleeding

What if I'm too afraid to do anything right now?

Call our hotline, or e-mail us. If you are just having some symptoms, we'll set up a pregnancy testing time just to be sure. It's quick and painless. If you have already tested positive, then let's talk. Don't let fear keep you from making good decisions.
